This year, a record-breaking 2,600 residents from all over Finland responded to the annual Lumo homes' sustainability survey. 84 per cent of respondents consider Lumo homes to be a sustainable or even very sustainable landlord, and the most important sustainability themes were the safety of housing and the building as well as the reliability of the landlord.

Lumo homes conducted an annual survey among its residents for the fourth time to find out their views on the sustainability of rental housing. Another aim of the survey was to find out how the measures taken by Lumo homes have influenced residents’ views and what they think is most important in sustainable housing today.
The results of the 2025 sustainability survey continue the positive development of previous years and show that the sustainability measures taken by Lumo homes are reflected in the everyday life of residents.
Of the respondents to the 2025 survey, 84 per cent consider Lumo homes to be a sustainable or very sustainable landlord, which is 4.7 percentage points more than last year. Since 2022, the assessment of Lumo homes as a sustainable landlord has improved by a total of 14 percentage points.
The importance of safety and reliability was emphasised in residents’ assessments
The safety of housing and the building became the most important sustainability theme for the second year in a row, and its significance increased clearly compared to the previous year. The reliability of the landlord was also given greater importance than before, and the location of the apartment was perceived as a significant part of sustainable housing.
Elina Ekelund, Sustainability Manager at Lumo homes, sees the direction as encouraging and is pleased to hear that the investments made are becoming a tangible part of residents’ everyday lives.
“Safety and reliability are the cornerstones of housing. I’m pleased to see that our long-term development work is reflected even more clearly in residents’ experiences.”
Residents were also asked to assess Lumo’s efforts in various areas of sustainability. The reliability of the landlord was clearly rated the highest, with 78 per cent of respondents giving Lumo homes an excellent rating. Moreover, 62 per cent found the safety and comfort of the homes and the living environment to be very good. Almost half of the respondents felt that Lumo homes’ neighbour relations are very good or excellent.
“One of the most important insights from the survey is identifying areas where we still have room for improvement. We will use the results of the sustainability survey in next year’s operational planning,” says Ekelund.
Development work continues towards 2026
Based on the results of the 2024 sustainability survey, Lumo homes developed instructions for situations involving housing disturbances, for example, by ensuring clear operating models for intervening in disruptive behaviour and by making the grounds for resident selection more transparent for residents.
The safety of housing has been improved by developing the locks, door codes and lighting of buildings and by improving the prevention of falls due to slipperiness during the winter months. In addition, pest control practices have been updated in cooperation with the best experts in the field.
In 2026, Lumo homes will invest particularly in its buildings’ shared facilities, improving the comfort and safety of the buildings and strengthening neighbour relations.
Ekelund thanks residents for their active participation and emphasises the importance of feedback in the development of sustainability:
“The results of the survey are very valuable to us. They help us ensure that our sustainability work focuses on the things that our residents find most important.”
